OU Scoreboard

I applied the same technique I used to make my daughter's horse show board, and made a scoreboard for my Sooner fans in the house ( this Californian is slowly becoming one too, just don't tell my husband).  The circles to write the scores is Grey Chalkboard paint from Martha Stewart.

Vintage Equestrian Room Re-Do

My daughter started taking riding lessons about 6 months ago, and has been addicted ever since.  So naturally, she wanted to change her bird inspired room decor, to an equestrian one.  Being my cheap self, I wanted to do it for as little money as possible, and have fun crafting. 

She has been participating in horse shows, which accumulates show bibs she wears on her back.  I found on Pinterest an idea that was originally made for runners, and their race bibs.  I changed it around, got some old wood that I glued together, and stenciled a horse and the show letters.  I had some hooks in those picture hanging multipacks you buy when moving into a new home.

I found 2 paint by number prints on ebay that I loved for their bright colors.  I found 2 more at an antique barn in the same colors, so I have 4 matching portraits for $20 total!

I strung up her ribbons on leather lacing that I have had since I was a teenager..it's been in the bottom of my sewing box all this time, I never wanted to throw it out for some reason.

I have had this frame from Ikea since she was born, it's been black, then pink, and now it is a light blue with a silver metallic paint to antique it.  A horseshoe from her trusted friend Apollo is the centerpiece.

These are just ball canning jars that I sprayed the lids, and bought some cheap plastic horses at Michaels, sprayed them with white paint, and dusted them with glitter from Martha.  They hold all the hair bows and clips.

Living in base housing, I am always looking to make the fixtures more interesting.  I took an oversized lampshade and ripped off the fabric, stretched some old floral fabric I had from a tablecloth, and bought some fringe from JoAnn's, and applied it with a hot glue gun.

Crafty Crap Cabinet

My dear friend (well we consider ourselves family) gave me this armoire. She had no use for it anymore and needed to get rid of it. I have been looking for something to hide all of my crafty crap for some time now, so I thought it would be perfect.

My first attempt to paint it went horribly wrong. I painted it with a semi gloss laytex white paint. I thought it was smooth enough so I just started painting it without sanding. I even primed it first. The next day, I wanted to give it a light sand to age the piece as I often do, and the paint started peeling off in sheets! I guess like a lot of Mexican furniture, it had a wax applied to it, which made the paint not stick. I was so frustrated that I just left it there..for months...until my husband threated sending it to Goodwill because it was taking up valuable space in his garage!

So last week, I sanded the whole thing down, which was so annoying. I painted it with some flat paint I got on clearance at Home Depot. I painted the doors and drawers grey, grabbed some clear crystal-like pulls from Michaels, and an Anthropolgie clearance handle for the door. I thought the doors needed something because the space was so big and a little boring. I had this giant fleur de lys stamp for years, bought some Martha Stewat Glitter paint (which I am in love with) in Antique Silver. The pictures don't do the glitter justice, it's so sparkly! Now it's up to my husband to haul it up the stairs. I will get it filled with all my supplies and post another pic.

Door to Decor

I was coming home from my son's football game, and noticed a community yard sale...need I say more. I stopped at this one house with an older couple. Found a fabulous 1948 mirror with a hand painted pink frame, perfect for my diva-in-training's room.

Then, I spotted these kitchen cabinet doors for $1.

A few weeks back I was shopping with a girlfriend in one of those fancy paper stores with sheets of great wrapping paper. I had bought 2 sheets, not knowing what I would do with them. When I saw the doors, I thought: "Could the papers fit?" They sort of do, they fall a little short, but whatever. I dry brushed a little white paint on the fronts, sanded them to make them look worn. One hangs in my dining room, and one in my bedroom.

Counterfeit table

Meet my new bedside table. This all came about because my lovely husband threatened to throw out all my old suitcases if I didn't do something with them. They are taking up precious space in "his" garage. I found a picture on Pininterest of a table like this using a vintage suitcase and suitcase stand(which I also had), so I copied it! Wish I could take full responsibility for this idea..but I did execute it!

Bedside to Chairside

Got this bedside table at LCM, and then moved it down with us. Finally got around to it because my hubby needed a place to put his drinks when he sits in his recliner. Since grey is the new black, I painted the outside the grey, and painted the inside a crisp white for contrast. I had the knob lying around from the dollar bin from Michaels. Love the drawer for remotes.

Heirloom Hutch

I can't tell you how proud of this piece I am! I love it, and every time I walk by it, I get a big smile on my face! The first reason is that it took me so long to complete, I am so thankful it's done. The second reason is that I love the fabric I found for it..so cheerful and the perfect backdrop. Thirdly, all my grandmother's milk glass looks so happy on display, and I think of her every time I see those pieces.

I had received this hutch from my Mom's friend, I remember it in her house when I was a little girl in the 80's. It looks modern and chic now complete with Anthropologie clearance knobs.
